Music Monday

Back by popular demand (basically just katy asking me wtf happened to my blog) here is a very belated Music Monday. The delay was me wandering through life looking for myself. I came up short once again, but give it a month or too and I’ll disappear yet again for another round of soul searching. In the mean time, I’m gonna try to be more obedient to my blog. So without further adue here is the song I can’t rattle from my brain this week. It’s Fun.’s newest single ” Some Nights” and it’s just so damn awesome! yea yea it sounds a bit like the 80s band Queen but hey Queen was damn awesome too! I was also stoked to see the video that accompanies the song because the video does this song complete justice, actually it almost surpasses the song’s already greatness. The pairing of the two, video and song, is epic. Everyone should take a gander and enjoy it before the radio destroys it, as it destroys all good music.

Friday Music?

I heard this song on the radio and I just couldn’t wait for Monday to come around before I shared it. Its a new band I’ve never heard of called Imagine Dragon, and with a band name like that, you know you’re going places. The song is chill,mellow, deep, and powerful, a lovely ballad of sorts, if you will. The song title is It’s Time. The first time you hear it you will realize this song has got major potential. Give it another listen and you realize it doesn’t just have potential, it’s your new favorite song! Now I’m listening to it endlessly waiting for the radio stations to catch on, be obssessed with it, and then kill it like they do all good music these days. Music Monday (Tuesday Tunes for my foreign followers;)

This song isn’t necessarily new, but it’s never on the radio and I wish it was. Its “Saturday Love” by Angels and Airwaves who happen to be one of my top 5 favorite bands. They play a great show and anytime you get a chance to see them you must must must go. Ok now that I’m done with my creepy fan girl rants, I’ll talk more about the song and album. I love this song! Its definately my favorite one on the album Love pt2 and probably my favorite one of all the albums depending on the day. Every Angels and Airwaves song sounds like a wonderful magical masterpiece, there’s just no describing it. This particular song I feel best embodies the type of love me and my Dustin have:) Though we are “grown ups” now I still feel like we are just two teenagers on a Saturday night , quirky and in love. (sappy I know, but its the truth, and its my blog so I get to do what I want) After checking out the song, you should definately check outh the entire Love Part 1 & 2 albums. If you’re feeling really artsy and thinkery, you should also take some time to watch LOVE the movie. I’ll probably write more about that later.

Watch-It Wednesday

Hey there, now this is probably one of my favoritest things I have found while browsing through the giant interweb. I stumbled upon this blog while looking for various forms of street art through tumblr, (I love me some street art). I’m not necessarily interested in graffiti. I don’t hate it, I’m just more into clever witty things people decorate the city with through spray paint, bumper stickers, posters or whatever creative artists can get their hands on. In this case, the artist “Slinkachu” (not a pokemon, I checked) uses miniture model train set characters. He paints and remodels these characters and places them in various situations right on the street. He takes a picture, then leaves the art for people to find. His aim is for people to slow down and take a look around every once in a while, because you never know what you might find. The picture above is probably my favorite. I would love to just wander upon one of his pieces.

Music Monday…..errrr…..uh….Tuesday?

Yea, yea, yea, I missed like a week of blogging, my bad. But hey I got a super awesome song today so that should make up for it! And I already got something for Wednesday on lock down that I’m really excited to share:) Todays musical guest is the straight up, old school, punk band, Pennywise. I don’t really keep up with this band like ever, but I knew they were punk rock and when I heard they had a new single, I just had to give it a listen. The new single just realeased is called “Let Us Hear Your Voice”. And I’d have to say I really really like it. Its fun, edgy, punk, loud, fast, and basically says “We’re Not Gonna Take It” , but they say it a little better than a former 80s hairband. (Dont get me wrong thoug,h Twisted Sister rocks too, they just rock on a different level). This new single almost gets me in the mood to start a riot, or go break things, and it really gets me in the mood for this coming summer and all the awesome spectacular rock concerts I get to go get crunk at. Well enjoy the listen, and try not to start to many fires:)

Watch-it Wednesday 4/19/12 Currently I don’t have a laptop so I’m doing this all by crappy smart phone, this will probably take twice as long and fail twice as hard. (I’m not even sure what that means). Usually I spend hours (exagerrarion) searching for a new video for Wednesdays but I’m at my parents house without my computer and limited if any internet. since I don’t have much of the wonderous interweb out here in the boondauks, I’m using a escape goat video that everyone has probably already been there done that. But for those of you who have never seen this video you are in for a real treat! I love sharing Jenna marbles to newbies because my gosh the girl is stinking hilarious. We share the very exact humor and I think on different planets, and if the stars were alighned just right, we would be soulmates :) she cracks me up and I think she is probably the only “celebrity” girl I would ever want to actually wanna hang out with. It’s no secret, I’m a big Blink-182 fanatic. So obviously, I was ecstatic with their new album release last summer, and though the music has been out there for awhile the CD is still in my car CD player and is very rarely replaced, except for maybe another Blink CD.

Today, I’m in a chill sleepy mood after a long long long weekend. So todays song is more pretty, melodious, and soothing. The songis “After Midnight” and is Blink’s 2nd single off their Neighborhoods album and its one of my favs. I think it’s the genuine whiney Tom voice that woos me over for this one. Well I’m gonna listen and nap away to this one for the rest of day. Enjoy the video as well, It’s pretty damn cute Blink love.

Devil Cupcakes!

Ok, last Friday I had another obvious total blog fail, as is usual except, I really just gave up, and never posted anything at all. The blog fail was a sudden onset illness, that struck me of couse at the most in opertune time. It was also one of those illnesses nobody ever wants to mention, talk about, discuss or remember, and it was definately one of those illnesses that the planned blog of Spicy Queso dip was just plain out of the question.

So lets all just pretend last Friday just never happened, I know I’d loved to.

Moving on to this Friday Food Day, my husband and I thought we would be super clever, and try to hold to the current Friday the 13th theme. We decided to choose something related to the Devil’s food cake category and I came across a delicious cupcake recipe with a white cream cheese filling. We even went the extra holiday mile and bought red food coloring to make a more bloody devilish center. We are just festive like that.

The recipe was so simply laid out I assumed this would be a breeze and somehow forgot how much my cooking skills resemble those of Lucille Ball in every “I Love Lucy” episode ever created. Cue the audience directed laughter………

The recipe basically is make the Devil’s Food Cake according to the box. Check. Then make a seperate bowl of filling, which is just sugar, cream cheese, egg, chocolate chips, and our added bonus of red food coloring. Check. Fill cupcake fillers half way with cake mix then add one tablespoon of filler on top and bake 20 min. at 350 degrees. Check. After 20 minutes of baking take cupcakes out and let cool……….UNCHECK! I failed miserably at this very last step:( The potholder slipped and so did every delicious Devil Cupcake right out the very effective non-stick cupcake pan :( In my just cleaned kitchen I might add.

So the curse of Friday the 13th I would attest to is very, very REAL folks! Watch your backs people!

After removing the bright red molten lava creamcheese from the oven, my hands, and my pants, I went ahead and tried to make another batch and they actually turned out somewhat better. I had my husband very carefully remove them from the oven this time. They are indeed delicious little Devil cupcakes! The first picture seen above with the white filling is the image from the website of the original recipe, none of my cupcakes ended up looking like that and I really don’t know how to make them look like that either, and after scrubbing that oven for hours (and regretting the bright red food coloring) I could care less that any my cupcakes looked like that. They tasted good and the house didn’t burn down, today was an ok day.

I can’t even remember exactly how I stumbled upon this yesterday, but I am more then happy to announce to all of you, that I have stumbled upon the internet’s version of Heaven.

These days, the internet has been flooded with several widely popular 24/7 live web cams. These ever live streaming web cams are setup to show just about anything, ranging from litters of puppies and kittens, to ghost in haunted houses, to well…..er….um… more adult themed places. Well ladies and gentlemen, I have found such a web cam that can make you forget about your burnt breakfast, your mean boss and your bad hair day. Watching this for more than 30seconds could cure your deepest woes, your stress, and possibly even head lice (although that has not been tested yet). Your frown is guaranteed to be turned upside down with this webcam because this webcam’s star is the freaks of the bird world, this web cam is PENGUINS! :)

Ok ok ok, I’m probably partial to this topic because I just so happen to have some real life penguins as neighbors. I live next to City Aquarium and just outside my window sits the “Warm Climate Penguin Exhibit”, and no lie this is probably the single most reason why my husband even rented this apartment at all. Penguins are like 78% of the world’s population’s most favorite animal (and that’s just science). I am sure you are all wondering to yourselves “What time does a Penguin wake up? What sound does a Penguin make? What do Penguins smell like?” Well let me tell you…… Penguins wake up promptly at around 7:45am 7 days a week (they do not go on holiday and they do not take weekends off) I know what time they wake up because of answer to question #2 Penguins make a very distinct loud high pitch squawking noise witch they make this unique noise promptly upon waking up. The answer for #3 is pretty obvious…… they smell like a bucket of dead fish………

I know from the wrap sheet I just gave you above, it would seem a Penguin is not a good neighbor. Well you are wrong. My little tuxedo friends waddle so freaking adorably and so curiously and friendly that no one with half a soul could be upset with living near them. They are the best neighbors I could ask for and I spend hours sipping my coffee in the morning and watching them waddle and swim about aimlessly outside my window and now with my new found web cam I can continue my watching from my computer while I am at work. I am sharing this video with you today because I feel everyone deserves the chance to feel the warm fuzzies I feel looking out my window every day:)

Today’s Music Monday I actually heard just last night on the radio while driving home to Dallas. The song is “Do ya Thing” by the Gorillaz. It’s got a killer beat and had me subliminally revin up my cars engine. Before I knew it I was flying down the highway, weaving in and out of the mundane traffic, re-living every scene in the Fast and the Furious (including all scenes in movies 1-5) and the Dallas skyline was the absolute perfect backdrop to my personal pilot film “Fast and the Furious 6” (clever title I know).

I snapped back to reality immediately after the song was over, and “subtly” slammed on my brakes when I realized the speed I had been traveling. And let me tell you, I am no Paul Walker and my v4 lancer (as powerful as it may be in it’s little engine heart) does not really need to be pressed to its limits.

I looked up the video and though I am in love with the graphics and the trashed party house (which I think I have been there a few times minus the bowl of ears), I am just not in love with the way the sound quality of the music comes through. I think everyone should watch the video because it is awsome and it totally encompasses that “I woke up from the party of my life, my head hurts, what exactly happened? You know what I don’t care, think I’ll eat some toast” feeling.

After, watching the video, you should definately look up just the song so you get the full on Mario Andretti effect that I’m talking about.

Watch-It Wednesday

I’m new to this blogging world and even newer to the world of tumblr, and through my ever many, lonely, midnight wanderings over the giant interweb, I have found that tumblr is vastly larger than I had ever anticipated. I didn’t realize how much of a social network it is, and I am really starting to dig it. It’s currently my new #1 guilty pleasure (bumping Vampire Diaries down to #2 and painting ceramic animals to #3).

One thing I have noticed, is there are some super clever, socially awkward, hilarious people out there and tumblr is apparently the main hub they migrate to (I would know because now I’m on tumblr as well). While surfing through the endless array of blogs, I finally landed on this bookmark worthy blog today and I sat at my work desk laughing for hours on end. In between bats of laughter, it eventually hit me that this was what I needed to share today.

The tumblr blog is called #Whatshouldwecallme and it’s just pages and pages of hilarious gifs. I tweeted several of them and soon realized that there were just to many to tweet throughout the day. So you should definately check them out for yourself. You won’t be sorry!

This week’s musical number is by the electronic rock band Awolnation. Their first single “Sail” was flat right awesome! This second single “Not Your Fault” has some of the same screaming elements of “Sail” but to a much peppier and livelier beat. (peppier and livelier are spelt correctly, I checked, they just look really, really weird.)

I did some research and found this band and this song is categorized as “electronic rock”, sounds made up, but I’m not sure what other category you could possibly stick this song in. It’s completely unique in every element. It’s a great song, so great, it is currently my ringtone and makes me sound pretty much like a bad ass when people call me. Of course, now that it’s my ringtone, I will probably grow a custom to hating it in about 3 or 4 weeks.

I do enjoy the video a lot, it could because I own, I think, every single clay-animation Christmas video ever made.

Well I’m super annoyed for two reasons right now, 1) this blog is like 2 days late, and 2) this blog was amazing as of 3 minutes ago before I deleted it, instead of saving it. Major blog fail on my part, another reason I’m mad (it’s my fault and I can’t even blame technology for it).

This blog is way past due, but not without good reason. I went out of town this weekend and visited old college buddies and the bars Friday night. Sounds irresponsible I know, but I actually had prepared in advance my Friday Food Day on Thursday night to avoid this delay. I even had gone to the store and bought loads of ingredients to what I thought would be my first great martini cocktail.

I was wrong, way, way, way wrong.

I was stoked Thursday, because I had found what seemed to be a perfect martini recipe for the coming summer pool parties. It was called a “Pinkade Martini” and it was a mixture of cherry, lemonade, vanilla, lime and sugar. It looked beautiful and super refreshing. I put my concocting skills to work and followed the recipe ver badem and successfully created one of the worst cocktails of all time.. I made it 4 or 5 times (to be sure it sucked I guess), each was worse than the one before. Actually the 4th wasn’t so bad, but at this point I had worked up an immense buzz, making the results somewhat inconclusive. I spent the remainder hours of Thursday night wallowing face down in the floor in my drunken stupor, whimpering at my failed attempt at becoming the next, up and coming bartender. I eventually gathered myself together, cleaned the endless sticky remains of the devil cocktail, and began packing for my Friday escape.

After the blur of what was called Friday night, my husband and I drove several hours back home, stopping once to pick up a bottle of wine for dinner. You see after a night of drinking away our inhibitions, our dignity and our paychecks, we feel the need to redeem ourselves. Buying wine allows us to delusionally think of ourselves as cultured and civilized grown adults. We are by no means wine connoisseurs, but we do enjoy dabbling in the finer alcoholic beverages every so often.

The wine my husband selected is [ yellow tails’s ] Moscato. We had never had it before and it was absolutely delightful! It was sweet, fruity, and fizzy and was a great relaxing finish to a rather rough weekend. I highly recommend this wine to anybody who needs a great tasting wine that doesn’t need to be paired with a particular meal. This wine is fine all by itself! I also recommend checking out the [yellow tail] website. It’s cleverly designed for wine newbys (like me), and it shows all their wine selections and which foods go best with them.

[ yellow tail ] wines are a great go to, for nights with friends where you don’t necessarily want to go out and lose your mind. It’s a good, movie night wine with your date, or board game night with your girl pals. It’s extremely inexpensive and a great recovery aid for people who blow their paychecks in a single night of mayhem (like me).

Watch-It Wednesday

Being that this is the very first Watch-It Wednesday blog post for me, I really had no idea where to start. So naturally, I returned to my college procrastinating ways, and I went straight to youtube. Here, I watched hour after hour of Jenna Marbles videos (my fav). I truly spent about 3 1/2 hrs doing just this. Then I saw a cat video scrolling to the side, very intriguing…. I was about to click the link and begin a long steady downward spiral into the deep, deep, youtube cat video abyss when I saw a cute little pageant girl video with the words Psycho scrolled right above it. I looked at the cat video then back at the pageant girl, shrugged my shoulders, and decided oh what the heck, why not….

“Psycho” surprisingly is probably just about the only word in the English language that could ever deter me from watching such videos as “kitten stuck in hamster ball” or “Cat scares alligator”. I clicked the little pageant girl link and I wasn’t disappointed. Watch it for yourself, reminds me of my younger days when I was completely clueless to the rest of the world and the things that went on around me……thank goodness I grew out of that……

I love me some neon trees and was addicted to their first single “Animal”
which debuted in 2010. Their new single “Everybody Talks” which just released this past month has the same exact spunk and drive as the first and is constantly running through my head.

I’ve heard this song a few times on the radio lately and it’s just so dang catchy and peppy. A good “spring is finally here” kind of jam. It’s a toe-tapping sound that I just had to share.

The band itself has a quirky, alternative, rocker, edge about them. Mohawks, eyeliner, with flashy yet darker apparel. They toured with The Killers at some time and I can see the resemblence between the two bands, but Neon Trees definately has it’s own style and sound. This is what I like about them. They are unique, they are loud, and they are fun.

I have never seen the band in person, but I watched them perform live on Jimmy Kimmel last week and the sound and enegy the band gave was flawless. It was suprising at how great the vocals were for a live performance and the crowd was ecstatic and singing along, every word. Great to see a band that can sing on and off the radio (rare).

They will soon be in Dallas for Edgefest April 22nd. Just in time to promote their new album “Picture Show” which will be released April 17th. I will definately be picking up a copy for myself:), but don’t let my chit chat influence you, take a listen for yourself with the new single “Everybody Talks”.

First Friday Food Day!!!

Since my husband is out of town I decided to practice baking cookies. He loves cookies, but since I blatantly suck at cooking, we never have any baked goods around. I looked for cookies all day that looked spectacular but also had a simple recipe. This is what I found.

Chocolate Chip Oreo Cookies

· 1 stick softened butter

· 6 Tablespoons sugar

· 6 Tablespoons brown sugar

· 1 egg

· 1 teaspoon vanilla

· 1 ¼ cup flour

· ½ teaspoon baking soda

· ½ teaspoon salt

· 11 broken pieces Oreo Cookies

· 1 cup chocolate chips

Looks simple right? pffffft….. remember I have ZERO cooking/baking experience. My first and most difficult task was just going to the store and buying these ingredients. I stood dumbfounded, mouth agape in the middle of the baking aisle as little old ladies zoomed around me.

First, I looked for brown sugar. News Flash! There were 3 options, golden brown, light brown or dark brown. The recipe did not specify what type of “brown” sugar, and there was no “just plain brown” option. I just grabbed the middle option “light brown” which happened to have a picture of cookies on it, (seemed legit).

Next, I needed chocolate chips and once again I stood there befuddled as I looked at about 7 different kinds of chocolate chips. Semi-sweet, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, peanut butter? I went with semi-sweet for no particular reason at all. I just wanted to look like I knew what I was doing, and to quit being silently judged by all the 80 yr old women.

When I got to the butter aisle, I thought surely butter can’t be complicated. WRONG! Salted, un-salted, not-butter, almost butter……I just wanted BUTTER! I ended up walking away with a box of something that didn’t even say butter on it anywhere, but I knew we always used it back at home. (Seemed legit)

Mixing ingredients was somewhat simple except for the part where I sandblasted my face using the mixer on high with dry sugar and hard “butter”. Then it thawed, and it was better. (Actually I gave up, and my mom did it) (sorry I’m not sorry).

Then the cookies baked.

And when they were done ……THEY WERE GREAT! They were AWESOME! I actually made something great! Great tasting, spectacular, wonderful, semi-easy, Oreo Chocolate Chip Cookies! I highly encourage you to try them out for yourself, and maybe with this experience, I can brave the little old lady aisle a little better in the future;)

Starting Now
Well, I have graduated, I’m married, and I’m employed. I don’t really have much to complain about other than I stare at computers with nothing to do hours on end. So I’m fixing that. I am giving myself weekly homework because I’m a dork/nerd like that. Hopefully this new blog will help me maintain my sanity or possibly recreate my former insanity. (Crossing my fingers for the latter.) I did not graduate in journalism, grammar, or english or anthing related to that. That will be apparent. Grammar geeks shield your eyes.
